Unhappy i don't know

ok i've looked for to days, can't figure it out. there is a sensor or sending unit on the engine block, it looks like a water temp sending unit, but its located between the fuel pump and the oil filter on a 1979 351modified in a half ton 4x4 f150. can someone help me figure it out before i go compleately out of my mind over this little duhiky..

If memory serves...that is your oil pressure sending unit.

The OEM pressure sender is on top of the engine behind the manifold. There should be a plug in the location you mention. It may be an aftermarket sender or switch of some sort.

As Eric said that hole is plugged from the factory on 351M/400 engines. It could be the sender for an aftermarlket AUX oil pressure gauge or possibly an O.P. cut off switch for an electric fuel pump. Whatever it is, it isn't stock!
