when i push the brakes my rpms will go down and then when i let go it will go back to normal. if anybody can help i would really apreciate it since i have to go to school tomorrow. thx
Get the engine running and up to normal temp, take off the air cleaner, cover the carb air horn with your hand. If the engine speeds up, you have a vacuum leak somewhere. With the engine running, pinch each vacuum line shut, if the engine speeds up you have found the culprit. If all the lines check OK, spray some starting fluid around the base of the carb and on the intake sealing surfaces, if the engine speeds up you have found the leak.
It's also possible that it could be the vacuum booster for the brakes (assuming you have power brakes). I replaced my booster last week and several engine driveability problems I'd been having disappeared.
can you tell me what the vaccum booster looks like. because this problem only occurs when i apply the brakes. i also notice that when i push the brakes down that it will slowly go down and then my cars rpm's will start to go down. thx
The brake master cylinder is attached to the vacuum booster and the booster is attached to the firewall. The booster is a large circular object with a vacuum hose attached to the front.
i would sure apreciate it if somebody can show me a pic of where the vacuum line of the dist. goes to . the carb is a motorcraft2100. thx. i also wanted to know if the line from the carb to the dist. pulls vacuum when i turn the car on. thx for the replies
