I just bought a new heater core for my 88 Bronco 5.8efi with A/C and it seems to fit when I put it in and evreything is fine untill I go to put the cover on, it is just a hair to big, and I really need this to be fixed b/c I have school tomm and its like 7 degrees outside, do I have to go to the ford dealership for the heater core? or what can I do?? please help
I am about to do the same thing to my 88 Blue/Tan Eddie Bauer Bronco (5.8) i was actually thinking about not doing the work myself. I am just sick and tired of little headaches like the one you describe. Right now my biggest headache is the fact that no matter what i do I can't get my reverse light to work.
Don't get me wrong i am not going to get rid of my bronco. I love the thing too dam much but sometimes it worse than my girlfriend.
did you make sure you got one for an 88..i know that sounds like a stupid question....but i had an 85 that was rolled my my kid sister (long sad story) and i tried to use the heater core out of it and put it into my 83 before i tore it down..and experienced the same problem you are having..just a little too big.....i went out to the auto parts store and got one for an 83 and it fit fine
yeah I got one from autozone for around $26 and it was for sure a 1988 BRONCO heater core with a/c. we checked several boxes and they all were the same, so I think I have to go to the ford dealer b/c and hope they have one in stock which I doubt in the first place.
I am really learning that this truck is a high maintianace vehicle. I mean I love it and all I have had it since I was little and its just the cost of repairs are like a monthly payment for a new car or truck.
i bought my heater core for my '89 at an auto-zone-type place and it fit fine. No problems whatsoever... I would recommend making sure you have it pushed in as far as it will go and that it is actually sitting in the spot in the correct position. Wiggle it a little and try to get it to sit in there correctly. worse comes to worse... work it out yourself... You dont even want to know what the OEM part costs from a dealer. not to mention the huge labor charge for a relatively easy job...
I just did mine last Friday - the job itself was easy, the only reason it took more than 45 minutes was having to remove the original baked on hoses and original clamps. It was fairly smooth all the way around. Check and see if you can find a Modine one - I bought one from a store up here in Canada and it fit perfectly.
If it's too thick, maybe you could hit a wrecking yard for a deeper cover from another year. I agree that you should be sure it's wiggled all the way in. That should be obvious by how much of the hose nipples are sticking out in the underhood area.
if its that cold tape it up and use the one you got until you can figure out what to do better to be warm than have it look perfect. a lil jerry riggin never hurt nobody
I picked up one at NAPA for about $16 for my 1987 that fit perfect. I'd take it back to the store and have them verify it's the right one for your vehicle. Take the old one too, if you still have it.
