I have 97 F250 HD PSD. I know in the past that plow blades have not been recommended for the PSD due to front axle weight issue. Anyone have recommendations for mounting snow blade on my truck or reasons I shouldn't?
i plow with a 2001 f-350 psd using a 7.5 ft western plow.we plowed alot of snow with that truck no problems at all. just make sure your air intake stays free of snow. my boss changes tranny fluid and oil after were done plowing.not sure how f-250 will handle it.thought axles were the same size i think its just the springs that are different
Yes there is alot of front end weight, but nothing that some addaleafs couldnt help or rearched springs. You can run a 7.5' or 8' blade on your truck, depending on your intended purpose(driveways vs parking lots) Some say its a no no for a plow on a diesel and the same for a half ton, my opinion is common sense, you would not use your pickup to plow interstates, driveways yes. Some of my best plow trucks were half ton pickups with 8' blades.
I have 2 F-350 diesels with 8 footers on em and they plow great. I wouldnt go back to a gas plow truck. I am a sub contractor for a big landscape company and all his trucks are F-350 PSD with plows on them.
The only issue with the 97 250 is that the front end is independent suspension. With all that weight on the front, it tends to put a lot of stress on the u joint. Also, in reverse with that weight, the tires will tend to camber out, which is not good for the front end. i would recommend either putting on a solid front axle, or going with the 350, which comes with the solid front axle.
Thanks for that bit of info. If the blade is on only when I am actually going to use it ( 1/2 mile driveway on a large hill, and occational 27 mile trip to work that has a large yard) do you think that it would really matter independant or solid front?
Then again, what would it take to swap to a solid front and how much mechanican ability would I need beyond my farmboy upbringing?
i have seen plenty of those trucks with plows
you may want to stay with a 7.5ft blade.
the meyer 7.5st is very good for the money with out to much weight on the nose. I used to have on on my old 92 f-150.
you will be fine have a 8 foot western on mine with 1 extra leaf and no probs.had a 84 f250 with a 8 foot fisher and had some probs.but fishers are a very heavy plow.
For little distances I wouldnt worry too much, but if you were to do it professionally, I would go with the solid front axle. so in your case, you should be fine
You will be fine with a plow on a diesel F350 i plow with 2 f350's with 8.5 fisher V's on them the plows weigh much more than what plows you guys are discussing and mine do fine I added timbrens to help
