OK D2 are not "junk" but relatively undesireable. These castings are a poor choice for a carbureted pump gas street build because of the shape of the combustion chamber. They can be made to run and work and last. but remember that the bowl configuration, combustion chamber-valve-port orientation is not conducive to flow at streetable performance levels (atleast not as well as a different non open chamber casting) However the desireability of these heads is prone to come from anyone doing a forced induction build. The bowl shape, the lower CR and the open configuration allow more gain than a closed chamber with a super charger application. I feel that for a street pump gas build, a set of doves is really hard to beat. I have ran aluminum and had good perfromance levels, but I was very uneasy about the mounting of all the accessories to those aluminum castings. If this has no bother to you, then go for it. I went back to iron due to the ease of accessorizing the engine, in addition to it seemingly to have more foregiveness on a cold start up and a leaking standpoint as well as the head bolt/washer combo necessary for aluminum vs just a bolt.
