Pulled my head off, and found broken exhaust valve. A small piece (3/16") broke off the seat area of the valve and was in my cylinder. This was obviously the noise I thought was the lifting noise. I couldn't find the piece that broke off, maybe it fell on the ground, and I missed it. The piston looks fine, as does the head. How worried should I be???
Could the piece be in the head making noise in the valve flow area?
I'll have a picture up in a little while, just wondering what your thoughts might be?
Here's the pics of the damage. I'm pretty sure the broken part went out the exhaust. And the noise I was worried about was just the sound of the combustion coming into the header?
What position is the piston at in that cylinder right now? Can you see much of the cylinder wall? Any scratches or anything? You've got the head off...I would think that you could get it out, or it would fall out if it was rattling in there. Maybe in the exhaust somewhere?
The cylinder/piston are fine. There was a crack in the head right at the seat where this valve burned out. That must have been the noise I heard as it was constant with engine speed. I got 2 remanufactured heads and going to put them on this weekend. Putting it back together is always the hardest part.
The autozone.com has some good info not in my Haynes...like vacuum diagrams and electrical diagrams that are in visual format not schematic. And like I said, I snapped some photos as well.... just been too busy to put them on the web. Let me know if you get stuck, I might have a specific one I can get to you!
