Today's Holiday
A 52 year old lunatic carried a pistol into LAX, possibly to settle a grudge, and shot two people before being cut down by El Al Security.
Less than an hour later a private plane crashed here in my town at a large Regional Park, killing the pilot as well as several people, at least two children, enjoying the Fourth of July Holiday. While these two events appear to be unrelated, it really put a damper on the holiday celebration as folks left from the beach and parks in droves, sad.
Couple of personal thoughts, grim as they may be. If the nut with a gun was going to go off, the front of the El Al ticket counter was probably the lowest impact spot he could have chosen, (short of a cave). Reports are that the El Al security personnel "neutralized" the shooter before he could empty his weapon; tragic he chose to injure innocent civilians to make whatever point he wanted to make.
The plane crash involved a twin engine Cessna taking off from Brackett Field, (directly adjacent to the crash scene), plowing into a picnic site at the LA County Bonelli Regional Park. The pilot as well as a twelve year old and an eight-month-old child were killed. A number of others were taken to area hospitals, obviously we pray for their rapid recovery. Damn.
I'm sorry if this is a big downer, not really sure this is the plac to vent, but when you have a commonality/community you gotta share the good and the bad.
Life is short friends and neighbors; best we remember how fragile that thread is when dealing with each other.
The local stations here have also been showing it.
The world is getting more into turmoil, everyday.
I find it weird he didn't land the plane in the water rather than the beach.

As for the victims of todays tragedies, they are in a better place now where they can feel no pain. Sad as it was that they had to leave this way, but the only thing you can do now for them is pray.
