I have a 95 PS with an auto trans and my ring gear is starting to get torn up. I went to the parts store and they told me is was some special flywheel that may cost over 800 bucks. is this true. i figured i could just get the ring gear for it. let me know if anyone has had trouble like this and what you did. i was thinking of droping the tranny and rotate the fly wheel but i dont know of that make any difference at all. Thanks.
You have a dual mass flywheel and they are expensive. Most poeple replace them with a single mass flywheel and clutch kit for about $600 for everything.
no it dosent i just fig it out. the auto has what is called a flex plate. it is about 600 bucks cheaper than the dual mass flywheels for the manuals. i found it at advanced for 70 bucks vs. fords 150.
If your ring gear is shot your dmfw is most likely shot as well. You will notice you can rotate the friction surface of your flywheel by hand. I the amount of free travel is less than 5/8" or more than 3/4", your dmfw is out of specs and needs replacing. To replace with the original dmfw and clutch you are looking at 950.00 thru me for factory parts. If you upgrade with the Luk conversion to a smfw which is a better, stronger, and more durable setup, you are going to spend 595.00. Give me a call if you need any additional info. 888-462-2739
