the other day i ran out of gas, and when i went to try to crank it up, i turned the key off and it kept cranking, and it kept doing it until it burned the silinoid out. and sometimes the engine wont shut off after i drive it, and i try to dump the clutch and nothing happens even when i am in gear!! someone please help me figure this out!?!?!?
If you ever run dry again, before you crank it, pour some gas down the carb. Not too much or you'll flood it. About the amount you'll need to fill an antifreeze cap should do. Have you changed the solenoid? Dumping the clutch will work if your engine is dieseling. If you haven't changed the solenoid, check the wires connected to it. They may have gotten hot and fused together.
Low battery voltage or a poor ground will cause the same situation. Check your ground connections especially the block to firewall. You don't want the truck to fire up while this is going on, the starter will likely stay engage on the running ring gear and chew it up.

i had a dream last nite that it was doing the same thing and woke up this morning and hurried up and made sure it was crankin rite. whew!!, but i think it was the solenoid, we have about 5 of them laying around the yard so im glad i had a spare.
