bleeding slave cylinder

bleeding slave cylinder

have a 94 ranger 4x4 w/4.0

have replaced all clutch parts and have bled system repeatedly but still have air in it.

still do not have firm pedal and release bearing against pressure plate

any tips

did you let the resevoir get low air in it? if ya did ya gotta bleed the master. If ya didn't you could have a bad master cyl!

Not much to bleeding the slave, its the master that is a PIA.

bleeding the clutch is simple, put your truck over a steep hill front end pointing down and push and release the clutch pedal several times,that should get rid of the air in the slave cylinder,turn truck around with front end pointing up and pump pedal several times and that will remove the air from master cylinder. Sounds stupid but it workes.

Did the first part, Shifty. Now my truck's at the bottom of the hill!


Oh---...... was I s'posed to hold the brake too???

I know it sounded stuiped but if you look at the angle of the slave cylinder it slopes up, it keeps the air traped to the front of the slave but the hydraulic line and bleeder is attached to the rear, so the air stays trapped unless you can get the slave to point downward, thats why dropping the front of the truck down a steep hill or ditch allowes the air to be pumped out just by depressing the clutch pedal 10 -15 times.
