What would I pay? hmmmmmm I'm the type that travels around with sand laced KY behind my truck seat. so $300..lol I'm always lookin for those who don't know what they have/worth to wonder across. Which people like that are found everywhere, If i can't find em I don't need it that bad
If he doesn't know what he has low ball him big time, as in $300-$500. If he says that that sounds low offer him 75% of it for the D60. If you can get the D60 for around $300-400 then a rear 60/10.25/10.5/14 bolt is a $100 rear end, they're everywhere. spend some more to put 4.88's in the other axle and you have a set of axles for around $500 (if you can set up your own gears). If you can't then I'd try to get the set for not more than $750. BUT, If you really need these and he knows what he has try to work in the 2500 and down range. Unless you just can't live w/o these axles, then the sky's the limit.
Assuming its a 77.5+ hp Dana 60 front its worth anywhere from 1000-1400 in good shape, at least out west. The rear Dana 80 is worth maybe $300-400. That rear 80 isn't worth that much to me but I imagine it would draw that much. Those are fair and average prices...you can always find suckers to pay more and you can always find smoking deals and pay less.
But these are BRAND NEW axles (or so it seems to me from his description).....the guy will want more than $300 for the rear.
Or am I incorrect........are these rebuilt and have 100 miles after the rebuild? Any other info on them?? Who did the gear install?? What is the guy replacing them with?? Is he knowledgable about this kind of stuff??
I doubt they are new. I also figured the "less than 100 miles" probably pertained to just the gears, not the shafts. We are pretty much guessing with the info we have. And Dana 80s just don't pull much $$$ since Corp 14s and Dana 70s can be had all day long between 100-200 bucks and are better for our apps anyways.
No, they are new axles. One hundred percent new.Stock 4.88's.I figured you would know about the 80 Pro.Reason I am asking is because I saw these for sale for 2300 for the pair. Is there not a lot of strength difference between an 80 and a 70. Where can you find a 70 for only a couple hundred and it is it better than a 60? Is it stronger or just heavier?
Well ****......back to the original assumption.....that sounds like a damn good deal to me. How much work is required to get these things in your truck?? They need new spring perches and shock brackets......or will the current setup work??
Yea, that changes it if they really are totally new. I'd give him $2k and run...you aren't going to find a new Dana 70. Yes, 70s and 80s are both much stronger than 60s, but I prefer 70"U" axles because they have much better ground clearance. But snap up that deal. So what are these out of? I'm curious what Dana 80s are being put in these days...
the dana 80's was put in the 98+ SD 1 ton and up trucks. the only dana 80's i've seen where under dually's. i know a few with srw SD's but never thought to see what rearend is under them. i only know on the dually after helping a friend change the pinion seal on his 99 f350 dually which was a PITA because we only had the everyday tools thats used on 1/2 to 1 ton trucks, then had to go dig thru my Dad's shed to find a socket to fit the big %^& pinion nut on the critter.
