Por15 makes a product called "Metal Ready", which is a rust converter/metal treatment like Rust Mort. They are both etch the metal and convert rust to an inert compound. I have used both.

I perfer Metal Ready. Rust Mort seems to leave a sticky substance after it dries. I don't know if the residue is an issue, but I perfer the non-sticky surface that Metal Ready gives.

I have never used it but some people swear by Picklex 20. It is also a rust converter.

By the way, don't depend on any of the rust products, as the only solution. Remove all the rust (i.e. sanding, sandblasting, & etc.) you can before using any of the rust converters.

Further Questions

So far I have heard many good things about Metal Ready and POR15. Here is my issue and a few more questions: I have purchased rocker panels that "slip-on" over the existing. As the original will provide a solid base here is what I purpose. Treat the existing RPs with Metal Ready and then POR15. Then treat the NEW RPs utilizing the same method and using a panel adhexive glue them on. Then prime, paint and possibley use a rhino-liner to coat the entire inside portion of the RP and door jamb. Please let me know what you think. Am I missing any steps, are there steps I can leave out??? Please let me know!

Urethane seam sealer. Buy it at an auto paint store. You apply it with a caulking gun.

I suspect the reason you haven't received a response to your question is because you are in uncharted waters.

First, I have never used "slip-on" panels. My first impression is it's not a good idea since dirt and moisture would be able to lodge between the panels. That would lead to further rusting. You may have other impressions and information that leads you to believe different and that's fine.

There is no doubt the modern glues would be able to hold forever. The problem is, your glueing job would only be as strong as your weakest link. That would most likely be the bond between the paint and glue or the bond between the paint and metal. Then there is the question about how the paint would react to the glue. Too many variables for me to hazard a guess.

You might try the Por15 site and ask them. They have good support available by email. My guess though is that they will hedge their response by saying there is no way they could guarantee anything.

Same concern

I had the same concern in respect to how the glue would react with POR15. Maybe there is someone out there who has experience with this? I will consult both the POR15 site as well as the company I buy the adhesive from. Thanks for your advice.
