My '92 F150, 4.9L, M50D with 125000 recently failed the emission test with a Nox reading of 1055. I put it in the Ford shop praying the CAT was not bad. Well it turned out to be the CAT. Now the good news. They were able to do a chemical clean out of the exhaust system and were able to save my old CAT at least for another year. The Nox now reads 118. The FORD replacement CAT runs over $1000.00 bucks. After market CATS are cheaper but still run into some bucks. My hat is off to Pestige Ford in Garland, Texas for not trying to stick it to me. Do not let 'em sell you one unless you really need it.

I know you have been working on this for a while, the question is, did you learn anything about your problem?? Why did the Cat clog up? Did you play with the emissions yourself and overheat it? Was the smog pump ever malfunctioning. Did you spray something strange into the intake? Was there a major ignition timing problem you didn't mention. What did the Ford Dealer tell you about this problem?? Exactly how did they fix it? what do you think went wrong??
