What modifications has everyone made to their Expeditions? Just curious. Hubby and I are thinking of putting a 3 inch lift and some 32" tires on ours but Im worried about getting worse gas mileage and the fact it would prob. throw the speedometer off. Also thinking of putting a not so alaborate grill gaurd on it. Something simple. Im not to much for all the custom lights and lowering. Guess that's just the country in me. Oh and ours will be pulling a horse trailer at times too.
For towing a trailer, you can get a drop hitch that will drop the ball down 6 inches, or however much you need. As for the speedo being off, you can get a superchips programmer, and then you can adjust the speedo for all different sized tires.
i am running a 3 in lift with 285/75/16 tires on weld 16x8 outback rims and love them. I also have a billit grill and flowmaster cat back exhaust. the tires don't throw the speedo off too much like 2mph at most and gas milage is around 12 and 15 on highway. my opinion....go with the lift and tires...it changes the look of the expy and i think you will be greatly satisfied. good luck
For mods - see signiture below. All done in my driveway in the hopes of improving mileage and handling. At least the handling got better. So what that my wife thinks something is wrong with the exhaust, I think it sounds great. For impacts on the speedo relating to tire size changes see: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...hreadid=177007
Jpeacock.... if you have the EB 4X4 the stock tire size isn't much less than 32 inches! Mine measure 31.5 sitting on the ground. Stock tire and rim size! If your putting a 3 inch lift on it you will be able to run a much larger tire on it.
Its an XLT 4x4. These may be 30 ...I have to go measure them to be sure though. Im just wanting something that looks more 4x4. These have the crappy Wrangler Goodyear tires on them. I had them on my previous truck(stock tires) and had nothing but trouble..only last 30k miles and had 4 flats...They dont have tread worth crap either so when it comes to water(rain) or snow on the road your best bet is to stay at home.
Jpeacock, if you're going to lift, please put at least 33" tires on. You are correct that the orignal 16" tires are 30" and look really bad on 4x4's. Going from 30" to 33" is a 10% difference, hence your odometer reading and speedo will be off by about this amount....really easy to figure speeds at 10%. As mentioned earlier a Superchips Tuner (or the dealer) can correct inaccuracies. I've got a Superchips Tuner and really like its versatility and its performance.
I have 33" LT/AT tires on my "stock" 4x4 XLT and don't have any rub or steering issues. I put on a Rough Country steering stabilizer and Rancho shocks to firm things up a bit.
