Coolant change schedule?

Just wondering how often you gas guys are changing your coolant. If I remember right, the Owners Manual says every 30,000 miles, but is there a maximum amount of time? My truck is going on 4 years old, but I don't even have 25,000 on it yet. Should I flush my system now, or wait a while longer? Thanks.

Flush now. Coolant degrades as time goes by, even when sitting.

Oh yeah, drive your rig MORE. Seals in the engine and rest of the drivetrain degrade more quickly when they aren't lubed. Sitting in the garage doesn't lube said seals.

I got my truck at 50,000 miles without a coolant change ever. I flushed immediately a zillion times. Do you think there is alot of damage done to it becuase of this neglect??

Yes, the diesels cause the coolant to cavitate which basicall bores holes through the water chanbers and eventually water will get into your oil, thus screwing up your block.

With a gas engine, it may corrode some of the passages, but with modern coolant, most likely everything is perfectly fine. Just drain and flush.

last time i used that Peak coolant becuase it was cheap and i flushed it a bunch of times. This year i am looking to flush with a premium coolant. Any coolants better than others?? or should i completely convert to Extended Life coolant becuase of the absence of Silicates and better inhibitors and such.

One suggestion on flushing. Remove the water plug on the engine (V10). I was amazed at how much cruddy water/coolant came out even after I had done backflushed the system.

It has been a year since I changed the coolant. The plug is on the left side I think. It unscrews from the block.

I will take a look this weekend.
