I have owned my 89 bronco for about 8 days now. I have noticed a humming noise coming from up front around 70mph. Today I heard a unusual noise from up front and stoped in the parking lot at work and checked the rear end, front, but not the wheels. I got about 2 miles from work and the noise was there but drove, figured I could get it home. Well next thing I know the left side drops and I see the left tire bouncing 30-40 feet in the air and rolling off in a field. Was going about 70,and over a bridge and it took all I had to stop it. The lugs bolts are there but look a little stripped. Of corse the roter is shot, but I cant figure out how all five lug nuts came off so the dang tire would come off!! Lug nuts were nowhere to be found. Should be good to go with a new roter and lugs, plain lucky I guess.
pissed I hurt my new baby, but fixable. After i saw what could have happened guess I was lucky. Yeah destroyed my shorts and a good seat cover. I started to see the light at the end of the tunnel but could not tell if it was fire or the bright light .
Man! Glad your okay! I had a nice encounter once. My wife and I and my 8 month old daughter were in the bronco and we went to the pound to pick up a lab puppy that a friend told us just showed up. Well headed home the truck had a heavy vibration humming noise, sounds familar Huh? Any way doing about 65 rush hour traffic, approaching the end of that highway that splits off and getting ready to go over a overpass that is over 100Feet in the air. About a 1/4 of a mile from the overpass the truck starts to shake violently then there is a loud banging noise, I let my foot off the gas, did not slam on the brake, just then it sounded like a shotgun blast under my *** and slabs of my 33 X 12.50 X 15 DUNLOP R.V. RADIAL ROVER go flying through the air. Luckily the other cars saw what happened and slowed back enough to let me coast into the median strip. The tire lost it's tread part, peeled like an orange. Scared the crap out of me and my wife, mostly the fact that our daughter was with us and what could of been! DID I ALSO MENTION THAT THE DOG SUFFERS FROM A SEVERE CASE OF CAR SICKNESS EVEN TO THIS DAY!!!!!!!!!
i can relate to the stripping of the tire tread only diff was i was going 75 i was alone and no one felt the need to back off....its hard to steer around people with only 1.2 front tires and the running board ripped out and pushed against whats left of it. the worst part about it i was on my way to get new tires:P
Glad you are OK. It happened to me once when I was in High School in my friend's jeep. He picked me up for school and started talking about a bad noise when he turned. About that time the front end dropped and we saw tha tire shoot over a hill. Luckily we were driving slow through a parking lot at my apartment complex. Ruined his quarter panel.
well i got it home, rotor is shot but the damn thing still drives. The owner or tire shop before me must not have tightened the lugs. How the hell else could five lugs come off at once?? Anyone?
The same thing happened to my dad with my '84 f-150. The drivers rear tire came off. Never figured out how or why, other than someone might have loosened the lugs, or they just backed off.
LUCKY! Wow.. That must have been a bit scary... Why do people do that? Like loosen someones lug nuts.. I think its pretty messed up.. I dont think i would ever do that to someone.. Just cut there break lines ... J/k
