Transfer Case Seal Removal

Have 1999 Ford Explorer 4x4 whose transfer case seal leaks slightly from the front output shaft. Being **** about leaks. I want to replce the seal which I already bought.
Question: Do I remove the differential joint from the front wheel side, drop the drive shaft and slide it out from the tranasfer case? Or do I remove the drive shaft form the transfer case side, which has about 10 each 8mm bolts?

Any help would be appreciated. Before I bought the Chiltons book, I read it. It's procedure does NOT cover 1999. Only up to 1995. Even though the cover says 1991 to 1999.

You have to remove the complete shaft, front first and then the rear. Remove the yoke and replace the seal. Assemble in the reverse order. Good luck.

Did you end up replacing the front seal? I can't see how to remove the front output shaft on my 99 explorer borg-warner 4405. Once I remove the driveshaft, there are no visible nuts or snap rings, just the flange sticking out of the case. The rear has a yoke with a nut, but not the front. The dealer wants $600 to replace the $7 front seal.
