Oil Temp
Oil Temp
This is going to be a difficult topic to respond to, probably. I took an oil sample today, from the petcock on my by-pass filter. Today was about 21 degrees here. I drove about 10 miles or so, figuring that would be hopefully enough to warm the oil. Well, the oil was still very cold. Felt the oil filter cap and it was cool to the touch. Drove an additional 50 miles (wanted to try a new Flying J in the area to tank up) figuring she would be good and hot by then. Still only maybe about 120 degrees coming from the bypass filter test port.
1) Is this normal?
2) maybe Ford should put some kind of thermostat in the oil cooler, with a by-pass, like the cooling system, to aid heating in the winter, or is there that kind of system? EMTabmm?

I think the bypass filter test port is the secondary fuel filter. If so
the fuel will be cool. check this out

next time try touching the oil filter housing

Well Sir, I know the difference tween the water separator/filter/heater on the fuel line, and the by-pass filtration system that I installed myself, even if they are in similar locations. I know, if you could see me, I look a little slow, but, that is not the case. I was pulling an engine oil analysis sample. Not a fuel sample. If my oil looked and smelled like what I drain from the separator, I'd be in BIG trouble. Course after fillin up at that Flyin J am wondering if I should have the fuel analysed. Running like there is no winterization in the fuel. And tonight it's gonna be -10 or so. Maybe I will get lucky, and I won;t have to go to work tomorrow!

Maybe, you were just a bit harsh.....I don't think anyone on this site intentionally wants to demean another....just submitting input -- also to be read by others

So I am sorry too, but you will notice that it does say from the petcock on my by-pass filter. The oil filter cap I was refering to was the one in the center of the engine. Oh well, it is easy to get confused, and be confused by others, long as we all remain friends.By the way, I did have a little trouble on the way to work today. Was -15 this AM. She fired up great, ran great for a couple of miles, then started loosing power, and died of fuel starvation. After sittin a few, she came back to life although I had to limp to work at a reduced pace, until the engine warmed enough to add some BTU's to the fuel return line. The she was fine. Gonna have to get some conditioner in the fuel. That Flying J really did give me bad fuel. Or at least something that wasn't winterized!
