Hello,
I've owned a '95 explorer for the past 2 years. I had front/read difs serviced, as well as the tranny. The only thing that was NEVER serviced is the transfer case. I have little over 100K on the truck. I asked local dealer for price on the service and they told me I might be doing more harm than good to the transfer case, because the if they flush the old fluid and sludge it may loosen some parts inside and cause damage. Just wanted to get another opinion on the subject
Thanks
I have never heard that. Transfer cases are pretty tough. The chains stretch but there is really very little inside. I recently took one apart and this is real low technology stuff. Not like the spool valves you would find in a transmission. Those comments were directed toward the transmission. Two years ago I cleaned up a transmission with over 100K on it. That was real nasty fluid. 40K later it still runs like a charm. If it is done with care it is not a problem. I wouldn't trust any transmission shop.
