steering box replace or rebuild or?
The steering box in my old girl is giving me fits. It has a tight spot just left of center, everywhere else is fine. In the next couple of weeks I will be taking the cab and fenders to replace with rebuilt pieces so this would be a good time to mess with the steering box. She has manual steering now and I'm thinking about power steering. Would the Toyota box work in a F600? If so what is involved? How difficult to rebuild stock box? Any other alternatives? Thanks for the help.

The tight spot you mention should be right on center. Possibly your steering wheel is off center. A simple tie rod adjustment may be all it needs. The tight spot on center eliminates the play and makes it easy for the vehicle to track straight down the road. The tightness shouldn't be overly tight, just barely noticeable with the pitman arm off and steering wheel spun thru its travel. Gear is very simple to work on, even without problems, it should be disassembled and all the old grease cleaned out and replaced. I used a mixture of moly chassis grease and gear oil which gives a very light grease which has less tendancy to leak while still thin enough to flow over the gears. good luck.
