I have an 84 bronco with a 351w and i want to convert it to a serpentine belt.has anyone done this?what does it take?can i find a newer 351w with a serpentine and use pulleys ect. from it?
There are several local salvage yards around here i'm just wondering what year i need to get parts off of.will parts from a 302 work?and will the pulleys ect. bolt right on.
I read a post on this site that 302 stuff was the same. I am not sure how that works since a 351W motor is taller and wider. My PS bracket on my 351W mounts to the water pump so if it was a 302 unit how could it bolt to the same point on the motor? I do not have mulitiple mounting points either on my brackets. My truck is an 89.
I had a friend that did a conversion on his old pickup...he went and got the main crank pulley from another somewhat similar vehicle that had the mulitple pulleys attached to it then measured fom the outside of that one to the outside of the others and just bought the belts he needed by the measurments. I have an 85 with the 302 multiple belts and the only oddball thing I see is that i think its the alternator pulley, is a dual pulley. One goes to the crank for turning and the other goes to the air pump to turn that. Otherwise, the crank pulley has only 3 pulleys, alternator, PS Pump and AC. (Or something like that). There should be replacement pulleys for the components so you can get em all running again on the individual belts instead of serpentine. When I get home i will post a pic of the belt configuration with and without A/C. (If I can figure it out). Then all you need to do is get the pulleys you need. Or replace the component if the pulley isnt removeable.
Well the vehicle is running i was just wanting to swap to a serpentine for reliability and to make things a little simpler. i think that the 302 stuff will work but i'll find a 351 and ****** stuff off of it and if it doesnt work then thank god for ebay!!
