Ihave a 96 f 150 302 four wheel drive .When Idrive on the highway for about 200 miles the check engine light comes on then when it heats up and cools three times the light goes off. I can drive in town indefinetly with the light not coming on but at 75 or 80 for about 200 miles it comes on evry time .I think iI would like to remove my cats can I do this will it run right?

it is also guttless and gets about 8 to 10 mpg

Try hollowing out your cats. Cut both ends of the cat and reconnect them using a pipe connector and a pipe clamps available at your local autoparts store.

It will probably make it work about the same. Have you had anyone pull the codes for you? AutoZone will do it for free. There should be something stored in there even though it is an intermittent problem. Removing the cats on your truck will cause the check engine light to come on, unless you get a MIL eliminator for the O2 sensor after the cat.
