Does anyone have a picture or know of someone who has one of a tymer intake and filter system in their gallery? I have not been able to pull up anything on their website since it is not fully operational and I would just like to see one prior to purchasing one.
The TYMAR does two things:
It filters air better than the stock airbox, keeping dust from getting into the turbo. Plus, it flows more air than you can use, so it reduces restriction. The reduced restriction will lower EGT's slightly, improve mpg slightly, and increase boost slightly. The filter element is readily available. The TYMAR would be worth the price if all it did was filter better. Then, the other benefits would be free.
I'm with Quad....I've had mine on for about 4 months a little over 4300 miles. Was very hesitant at first, even kept the stock box to put back on just in case....but now...I wouldn't go back.
Agree with the above, went from not hearing the turbo spool up to clearly being able to hear it spool up. There was a definite difference in get up and go. Matter of fact its about time to call Dale and get a replacement filter ...
Depends on driving conditions - road driving I believe was 10k miles, less if your in the dirt a lot.
This paper has better filtration than reusable foam filters by a few percent, when its time to replace, old filter off - new filter on, no cleaning/reoiling mess, 5 minute job.
You can do a search for tymar (search titles only) there are some good threads comparing and contrast it to others such as AFE and K&N ...

that depends....some might bash me for this, but I wasn't up for paying somebody to send me a tymar setup for over $100 when I could build my own for $45 (and the biggest cost is the filter). Do a search and you should find plenty to read about.
I just used a 4 inch piece of exhaust pipe about 3-4 inches long, a couple of clamps, the filter, a hugh clamp that fit all the way around it and a little rubber stopper to keep it off the wheel well. I can even go back to stock if I need to. Call me cheap, but it seemed so easy to do youself after you see how they are put together that I couldn't resist!
Can't add anymore to what the guys told you. Just buz somebody with the Tymar installed and watch their head turn. Got asked at the store what that whisl'in noise was. I told'em my truck was a whistl'in DIXIE!
hey fisher of a man-
I have been searching posts on this Tymar set-up, and you quoted a Webshot URL which came back to a gent named Polaris Puller. He has the homemade Tymar with the stock intake box still attached to the battery tray. Is this you? I just need to know what size pipe to get. I have an 02 and see some use a 45 degree pipe, while others use a straight pipe. I would like to avoid the $33 for a new tray, but still want to be able to switch back for warranty work.
Any helo is appreaciated and it seems you did alot of homework!
Biggest difference is the Tymar has a disposable paper filter, when its dirty loosen screw - remove old filter - install new filter - tighten screw, your done.
The AFE is a reusable foam filter, nothing new to buy at 'replacement' time except for the occasional cleaning reoiling supplies, but you do have to just that - clean and reoil. Some have reported problems fouling sensor cause they got too much oil, or filtration may have been compromised by areas that didn't have enough oil... while I'm guessing the majority of AFE owners haven't had a problem. I don't like trying dig bugs and crap out of pleats, etc.
It time, I don't want to spend the time doing all that when I can pop a new filter on in 2 minutes and be done.... and the paper filters supposedly filter a few percent better than the AFE.
