My 01 250 4x4 starts when its cold, runs for a little while then quits? After it quits it will turn over quite fast but won't start again for several hours. At first I thought it was the CPS. But the tach is reading while it is turning over. Tonight, After work it ran for about 3 minutes. Just B4 it died there was a sucking/vacuum sound from under the truck. Very light at first and the RPM would drop a little, A little louder and more RPM drop ETC.. I'll replace the fuel filter in the morning. Any of you have this problem??? What did you do to fix it! Thank you, and happy new year.
That noise is probably the EBPV closed. Mine does it and will sometimes stall the motor when it first lights Others have mentioned to stop it is to unplug the weather connector to it. I don't unplug nothing! It's a pain to listen to the truck bog down when it engages and you can kiss the fuel milage good bye too while is'ts performing it's function. It's suppose to help warm the motor but I'm finding the motor can handle that department just fine.
Changed the fuel filter this morning. $39 from Napa Also drained the bowl, a little water but not enough to kill the Engine. 1 table spoon? It started right up and ran for 20 minuets. Even took it around the block. If it will just get me home from work tonight I'll be happy. If you see a white 250 on the side of I75 south of Atlanta tonight around 11pm, you'll know it was more than the filter.
For your info I get my fuel filters at AutoZone. They are the type with the cap assembled to the filter. Works great and cost is $26.95+tax. Hold on to your old cap, may need it some day.
Well it's not running very long??? About 5 minutes and quits. Will restart after a few and then die after 1 min?????
I saw another post about this problem, but he did not say what fixed it.
Things you could check. Fuses under hood. #18 or #22. I believe their for the fuel heater. Make sure the block heater is working. You'll hear it. Make sure H/P has oil in it. Just some suggestions.
How cold is it were your at?
I think it 55* here in Atlanta. No gelling problem today The tow truck just took it away about an hour ago. I think the cam sensor is DOA. If the tach moves when cranking, it will run for a few minutes. No tach = wont run at all.
Man I hate to hear it had to be towed. I've read that the tach won't move if the CPS has failed but I remembered mine did when it failed. Jellings not much of problem up hear either. The fuel heater I was talking about will sometimes short and blow the fuse under the hood. Won't let the engine start. There are threads on here that can explain it better. Hope ya don't get hit to hard in the wallet. When I had to have mine towed last month I gave the wrecker driver instructions not to come till 10 because nobody would be around to see! Pride and all!
