Do the easy stuff first. Put the truck up on jackstands to get the weight off of the wheels.

Check out the function of each hub individually. If they are automatic hubs, lock the hubs by turning the font driveshaft by hand. Verify that the hubs lock and that the front wheels spin when the drivesaft is turned. Then spin each wheel by hand in the opposite direction to unlock each hubs. The hubs should unlock and not make any noise when unlocked.

While you are under the truck, check that there is oil in the front differential by pulling the pipe plug. Oil level should be at or above the plug. Fill it if needed.

Check the two u-joints on the front driveshaft and the three in the front axle. They should be tight.

Inspecting the front end ring and pinion gears in an IFS front end is a lot of work. Get a good service manual (or a friend who has done this before) before taking this one on.
