Tire siping
Anyone have any experience with this and whether or not it actually does anything for winter driving?
My '00 Ranger just got a new 4 pair of Wildcat AT's and because of the traction problem in Spokane and the fact that Washington State might just outlaw studded tires I went ahead and had the tires siped as recommended. I can't feel any difference myself, I can't see how cutting lines in the tread will improve my traction on ice and snow by 20%.
Is that whole thing just an attempt to part me with an extra 30 bucks (it worked if it was) does anyone else have their tires siped and have any positive experiences with it?
I couldn't really tell if the siping helped at all after that huge snowstorm we had here in Seattle a couple days ago. There was a substantial amount of compact snow and ice on the roads for a day or so and while I wasn't slip sliding away, I did live in Spokane for a long time and snow and ice aren't new to me.
I guess I'll assume that since I wasn't sliding off the road the siping must have helped to some degree. Sure wish I could quantify it though...
I take it that siping is a relatively new thing.
Actually it isn't new, almost all of the M&S tires have some siping.
