I have a 1999 Expedition Eddie Bauer ed. and my power door locks went out one day while driving it. I have checked the fuses in the interior and engine compartment but both are still good fuses. What other fuses or where else should i check to get them back to working?
welcome to FTE.
did they all just stop working, or did they slowly stop after acting up for a while?
it is very possible that the actuators just died from old age.
Thank ya for the welcome. Im new to fords, still reading up on the ole girl. But the locks never acted up. And yes, all went out at same time, including the keyless lock pad on driver door. I found the factory code and entered it but nothing happened.
did you check the fuses with a test light, or just do a visual check?
sometimes a fuse can look good and still be bad.
to just stop without acting up tells me you lost power to them.
to check with a test light, look at the fuse. there are two small metal tabs on top. touch the probe of the test light to each side. if both tabs lights the light, the fuse is good, if only one side lights it up, the fuse is bad.
if neither side lights, it is deeper than fuses or lock actuators.
I dont have a test light but changed out the one fuse in the engine compartment. The two rods were corroded on that fuse. The interior compartment fuse looked fairly new. But yes, the power is gone to them, power windows still work though. Dont know if their wiring harnesses cross at some point, but only thing that went out was locks. No other components.
if the prongs coming out of the fuse were corroded, i bet that is your problem. try wiggling and remove insert the new one 4-5 times, it may clean the connection in the fuse box enough to make a connection again.
Well i did as you said with the fuse and even checked ALL fuses in interior and engine compartment. All are good. But before i get into the actuator, would the driver side actuator effect the passenger side actuator? I have the power lock button on driver and passenger side and neither work. So unless one effects the other, i wouldnt see a disturbance with the actuators. But then again, im new to ford makes.
i an no sure on the 99 trucks, but the earlier trucks had switches that would just die. and i do believe the power goes through the driver switch to get to the passenger switch.
do you have a test light? i would check the connector at the driver side switch for power.
Ok. I will have to try it tomorrow. Aint got a test light but can go to AutoZone and have them possibly test light it. Update tomorrow if i get it tested.
you should just buy one while there, they are cheap. a good one is only about 10 bucks. besides a volt meter, a test light is probably the best thing to own for troubleshooting electrical gremlins.
Check the wire harness that runs between the drivers side door and body of the truck for a broken or frayed wire. If there's a damaged wire in that harness fix it.
If that's not the issue, you may want to remove the driver side door panel, and check the wire harness connection that goes from the door harness to the body harness.
I've had this loosen up and not make good contact on different vehicles over the years.
Just had this happen on a Jeep a few weeks ago. Lost all door and window power, and also no power to the fuse. The harness plug in the door loosened up, and had to be pressed back together.
