hypertech programmer

Anyone have an opinion on the hypertech programmer? I have a 02 screw w/5.4 l 2wd flex a lite fan and K&N cold air tuning. I had a granatelli MAF but I sent it back twice because it sending a lean mixture code when the air temp got down below 50 degrees. What's better, a chip or a programmer? I've been told they don't make a diablo chip for my truck yet. Help, I have no idea which way to go here.

Thanks in advance,

Steve

I have a Hypertech programmer for my '97 Expedition w/ a 4.6. Of all the mods I've done this by far made the most noticable difference. You can't beat it for convience, you plug it in, push a few buttons and sit there while it does its thing.
Now for the down side. When they set the program up they use 93 octane gas. After finally figuring out some other problems that were causing knocking I'm able to use my progammer with the highest octane fuel that is available here, 91 and only occasionally notice knocking.
One more problem is that I can't use the progammer while towing. With the extra load it knocks to badly and of course towing is one time when I want the extra power. I'm trying different octane boosters but not having much luck.
Make of all this what you will.
Can you get 93 or higher octane fuel, do you tow?
I'm not quite ready to sell mine on E-Bay but it's not looking good.
By the way how do you like the new electric fan? Did you notice any difference in power, cooling?

What's the computer code? Its a 4 digit code on a white sticker. Open the passenger side door frame next to the hinges.
