Steering Pump
I have a 90 4wd automatic BII.
I had a leak in my sterring pump about a year ago,and i replaced it with one out of a 90 taurus. I have had problems with the power steering just leaving,no longer assisting me while turning the wheel, it would go out and come back during the turn.
I would go and look at it,check the fluid and it would come out really dark so i carefully drained it out and replaced it with fresh fluid, now it has been about 6-8 months since i replaced it last andI had to do it again last weekend, after a few days it smoothes out the steering, i filled it up this time with a more expensive fluid.
Is it possible that the pump isnt strong enough for my truck and its burning up, or is it just low quality fluid?
I dont know, what do you guys think?
Thank Alot!
Thanks for helping me on that, what can i do to fix it? buy a new peice and drop it in? I dont think that the steering box is covered in my manual, where could i look for information on this?
Also, went to drive it today and when i turn the wheel,it is like it is grinding the gears. it vibrates really bad too i checked the fluid and it was green! ??
Well,Thanks for your help!
I noticed today that in the original gear the power steering fluid was still the new clear-blue color, while it was dark as i drained it from the reservoir.
Is it possible that the hoses are clogged somewhere so it is burning the fluid in the pump and not the gear?
Any help or advice will be much appreciated. Thank you
