HUNTER=CONSERVATIONIST

anyway, without hunters where would the DEC and Ducks Unlimited get the money to help conserve our countries beautiful habitat and animals that mostly only the hunters themselves actually understand and appreciate. lord knows, that if taxes went up b/c the DEC needed money all those animal lovers would be in an uproar. $68 for my licence and $15 for my Federal Duck Stamp. plus my contributions to Ducks Unlimited. those animal lovers just cry and cry, but dont realize how much a hunter is also a conservationist.

Hunting is the fun part. It turn's into an unbelievably tedious and back breaking chore after you shoot the moose.

I think using dogs for "hunting" is stupid, and should be illegal in ALL states, for "sport hunting".
if someone lives, say, in the wilds of alaska, and has to kill their food though, I kinda think it should be almost"anything goes". most of us don't need to hunt to eat though, and "hunting" is a joke.
Stereotyping with the bowhunters being hard core?

Never been coon hunting huh? How ya gonna tree a coon without a dog

A "joke" would be living a life that of one that never enjoyed the outdoors to include hunting and eating the game you take.

Take a kid hunting/fishing and they will remember you for life.

I own a kimber cdp 2 -45 auto/ a ruger 9mm/ and a rem 30/06 and people ask me all the time why do i have them.I tell them because i enjoy it and i -can- own guns. Its the same reason i hunt, most people that hunt do eat the meat or give it away.Hunting is usually exhausting and expensive why would anyone waste meat.I travel in the hunting circle and i can tell you there isn't as much waste as one might think.

OK.......So some use "hunting" or whatever you want to call it as a "social type family gathering.

"Many hunters do it because it is a tradition and probably the only time all year when they can get together with their dads, cousins, uncles, etc.. without worrying about work or the rest of the world in general. "

Why is that? There are 365 days in a year and some families can only get together to hunt? I think thats kind of odd......And to not argue only when on a "Hunting" trip? That sounds even more strange to me....

I am not trying to be rude or obnoxious I just find some of this interesting.

Why is it that the family dynamic can only function well when on a "hunting" trip....

Andy..If you have ALOT of people shooting backat you, its a war.....

I never said anything about a war

Well I love hunting as much as the next guy but for me, the adrenaline junkie that I am, the fealing really wore off after getting my first deer at grandpa's vineyard. I recently was introduced to paintball by some buddys of mine and it is a blast. Not only do you hunt the most intelligent animal of earth but it also shoots back . I've play "speed ball" indoor arena type game and it resembles urban warfare, I guess, but nothing compares to going out into a good size valley with 10 guys and having 3-4 hour games. It a game of true stealth and skill. Miss with you first shoot, easy with paintball guns, and your carefully laid plan and camofague can be blown turing the table on you, now the hunted. Dodgeing and weaving sideways through the brush trying to gain an advantage on your opponent paint flying all around you. Plus the added advantage of being able to talk trash to your kill always gets some good conversation going

Hunting, like most things, has evolved into an activity that wouldn't even be recognized by the early "men" that hunted for survival. When I see someone carrying a $500-$1,000 rifle complete with long range optics mounted on top, the sport starts to resemble "sniping". It's target practice. Also, most people are relating to deer hunting. There is an abundance of deer. We have hunted, poached, and captured most of the big game to the point that in ten years or less, lions, tigers, rhinoceros, and many others will only exist in zoos.
Most of those rhinos and elephants etc. are being poached for the black market sales to the mystical medicine market in china and elsewhere, most of the poaching is done by native tribesmen.

Whether a person hunts or not is moot if they eat MEAT. At least Bambi has freakin chance . . . unlike Moopheus and Oink Johnson. I guess its fine though if you have someone else to do the slaughtering for you and it is out of sight and out of mind. Now, enough said my sirloin burger is getting cold.

you ever see what a deer ,moose or bear can do to a car?have you ever seen a man mangeled by a grizz. Its not perty i tell you at least we make it a quick kill with our high cost high powered rifles unlike the old days when they nailed the game upside the head and it would take probably hours to slowly die.i don't know about other people and their habits but i can tell you this hunter eats every bit of the meat he can get.It cost me about 800.00 to a 1000.00 dollars a year to hunt alot of which go's towards the wildlife habitat areas.Over 40,000 people hunted last year in minnesota alone,do the math now who hurts the wildlife.

I hunt, and I have two trophy bucks mounted in my den, I also have a fox and a few birds mounted and in glass cases around the house. I really dont need the meat, part of my living is made off my farm. I have plenty of beef and pork in the freezer.

Although I do enjoy the taste of the meat I end up giving most of it away to friends, family, and those who are less fortunate than I am. I just dropped off about 50 pounds of deer meat at a house that lives down the road from me. They dont have much money and the extra meat helps out allot. I also usualy give at least 2 deer and one steer or cow each year to the local food shelf which I process and package at my own expence. It is somthing that I can do to give back to my community.

As for poaching goes, if you need the meat and you are going to eat it and not let it go to waste as far as I am concerned go ahead a shoot the deer. I know of a few people that do this in my area. Our econemy is in the toilet and good paying jobs are hard to come by. I will hinder no man from feeding his kids in hard times.

However, if you are just going to shoot somthing for the horns and not eat the meat then I will be the first guy to call you in to the DNR. I find that pratice dispicable and will not tolerate it.

GUYS........I DO NOT DISLIKE HUNTERS!!!!!!!!
SO NOW I STAND ACCUSED OF BEING A VEGETARIAN TREE HUGGER........
I am a carnivore I am NOT a tree hugger.......I have no problem with the slaughtering of animals FOR CONSUMPTION.....I just don't understand why one would go out and shoot something to mount its head on their wall. I should have been more specific by saying "TROPHY HUNTERS".........

Andy,
Sorry I must of had you on my mind for some reason....I meant Wabkier.

Matt: Whoa!!!!!!!!! I could not be further from a tree hugger. I personally despise hippie tree huggers............ Having been in law enforcement in NYC for a few years (having moved on to a more stress free career of home theatre installations due to an injury) I have had my share of run ins with those FREAKS........I HATE THEM!!!!!!!

I merely said that if you hunt for food or eat what you hunt I agree with it completely. I do not understand ( not disagree with, just don't understand) why people have to hunt to have some kind of trophy. If you want a trophy, you should take up Bowling...

DomLog.....See like I said....If they shoot back...Thats Hunting!!!!

JSKU: I agree with you....
