I posted this in the Super and Heavy Duty boards but I'm hoping there may be an answer here too.
94 F-350. I can't shake this steering whine. I replaced the pump and just had the system flushed for air. No luck. I've read on here that Fords are known for the whine but it's driving me nuts. Any little bump of the steering wheel and it starts. I see on the net where you can swap in a Saginaw pump and that might help. Has anyone tried this and what's all involved for this year? Are there any pumps that can handle the larger volume (?) of fluid that can just be removed and replaced?
Was the replacement an autozone or Ford. If it was autozone thats more than likly the prob. I had the same problem and replaced the pump 3 times. I then went to the dealer ship and payed about twice the price but my porblems were solved.
hey Fully Loaded-as a matter of fact it was an O'Reilleys pump. I talked to the Ford garage today on where to turn and they said the same thing you did. The service tech there said they think the pump may have shelled out. They suggested to go with a Motorcraft pump and to prime it correctly. I'm at my wits end so I agreed on buying the pump from them (for some outrageous stones) and having them put it in. I bring it in for a Thurs appointment and I'll post on what comes of it.
