I purchased the 2 stage Diablo Delta chip. It has the stock or off position, and the high preformance 91 octane setting. I called MotorHaven due to the nocking the chip produced while in the 91 position. I asked if it would matter that the tank had some 87 octane still in it (4 to 5 gallons) and you said it does so I drained the tank and filled it with premium 91 and it still nocked. Ok, no biggy, I'll run this one dry and So once empty I filled it up again with 91 octane, and it still nocked.
Then this morning I went out to warm up the truck and it wouldn't start. After many tries I was forced to take another truck. Later in the day my brother went out and tried it and after some failed attempts he tried switching tanks, both full of 91 octane, and it started. We took the chip out and it started every time as like new. I don't know if it is the chip or what. Ken I would like you to help me out.
I got it the first time.... I need time to answer inquires. Got to eat, sleep, answer emails, etc. Just post the items once and I'll get to it. I follow up chip questions in one batch in the evening.... will handle it then.
Okay... sorry for the dely. As you can see by my 1:30am posting I've got a full plate right now (unfortunately 90% of the calls to Motorhaven people ask for me personally and the service reps end up getting paid to transfer calls!).
Knocking can be caused by two things: too lean an a/f ratio or too advanced timing. Did you ever get knocking conditions with 87 octane on hot days, or towing a load, especially up inclines?
The no start, if its caused by the chip, would usually be from a faulty connection. Acetone on the connector to clean it and then duct tape (yeah, it doesn't look great but it works very well) the chip securely. If you warm up the vehicle, turn it off and install the chip, does the no-start persist?
I had issues when my chip was first put in too and it was caused from not cleaning BOTH sides of contacts on the ECU. The directions with my chip failed to mention that important step
