I've been putting together a 56 f100 with a 71 302 engine and a c4 auto trans. Of course I had to cut out the original trans mount. Now I need full length hedders. I have a set that fits but they are completely worn out and the identifying numbers I find on them don't help. Surely someone must of had this combination of components before and I would appreciate a make and model of a full length hedder that works.
I have a 1955 F-100 with a 1977 302 V8, C4 automatic, column shift & the Toyota power steering conversion. I am using Blackjack brand headers (Mr. Gasket Company) # 93604. These headers were listed for 1969 to 1979 2wd f-150 with the 302.
Like you said you do have to remove the old frame crossmember.
Hey truckbuff,
How much clearance do you have between the Toyota box and your headers?
How far to the inside does the steering box protrude from the frame rail? What bracket did you use and how do you like it?
Thanks!
mwilson, I have about 1 1/2" from the Toyota steering box to the headers at the closest point with the distance increasing with the slope of the gearbox. I used the bolt-in solid bracket, shaped like a '7' , from Mid- 50's. The Toyota gearbox & the old stock box are very similar in size , shape & location if you are trying to judge the available space. Write to me if you need more info.
Thanks, that's all I needed to know. I have a 302 with Doug Thorley Tri-Ys and there is about an inch clearance between the stock box and the headers. I will keep my eye out for a good used Toyo box.
I think a set of Mustang headers (shorty's) for 79-93 cars should fit. I have a 351W in mine and it's very close to the steering column so on a 302 it's not as wide so it should fit fine.
