Binding in 4wd after recent work
Just had front left ujoint replaced, new rotors/pads, and front shocks. While in 4wd, the truck seems to be binding (like a brake grabbing) but it doesn't in 2wd. It also crow hops severly when turning. A little is expected on dry pavement, but this is severe!
When driving normal speeds in 4wd the truck seems to grab on one side then release - and when rolling to a stop it's as if again a brake is grabbing. When starting up, there's a noticable binding.
The mechanic cleaned and used white lithium grease on the manual locking hubs while wheels were apart. Could this cause this problem?
Was wondering if a lack of front diff fluid could cause this as well? Any help greatly appreciated.
Clueless
it wouldn't do that b/c of low diff oil
you really shouldn't drive around in 4x4 esp on pavement.
i really think there is too much grease and the hubs are not completely dis-engaging. pull the hubs out and wipe out a lot of the grease!
jack the front end up....put the truck in neutral (chock the wheels)....put truck in 4x2....lock BOTH hubs. turn both tires and look to see if the front d/s turns. then unlock BOTH hubs and turn the tires once more. If your front d/s turns when hubs are unlocked then there is prolly too much grease!
good luck
