tattoo
I currently have 2. What was said earlier about addiction is true. I have 2 more planned this year that I have designed.
The first one I got I was 26 years old. The Grim Reaper on my left forearm. I can't remember the name of the shop but it was in the Tacoma, Washington area and the owner drove a Hummer.
I just happened to be in there looking at the wall art & struck a conservation with the artist. I told him I was a little worried about it & for some reason he comforted me enough to go ahead and pay for one. When I got into the chair I thought about chickening out & he said I was free to go but I wasn't getting my money back so I got the tattoo.
The second one is actually a elbow peice spider web with a black widow hanging off it. My elbows aren't designed for tattoos so it was moved further up on my left arm wrapping around my shoulder blade/bicep area. I had it done at Tattoo U in Brainerd, MN.
The other 2 I have planned is just a little stick man sketch that I thought would be funny as hell & then a scroll with my childrens names one it. I plan on having those ones done at Cloud 9 in St. Cloud, MN.
My wife wants another one but I tell her that I have to catch up to her first, hell she has 9 of them.
http://www.rticangell.smugmug.com/gallery/103319 You can see some of my work here. Look for the guy playing the green guitar covered in tats.
My wife has trophy winning tribal work. She has a piece that runs around her upper back, over her shoulders and across her chest. This piece has been seen in numerous magazines and is what won her the trophy. She also has a lower back piece, upper arms/shoulders, ankle band and a huge celtic cross on her calf dedicated to her father who passed away from cancer.
It's a Scottish thing. Basically, an arm with it's attached hand gripping a dagger, and encircled with a leather belt. On the belt is supposed to say "Fortitudine" which I found translated to mean "Strength by Courage."
There is some resemblance to the proper crest, but the tattooist took some artistic license, which I was okay with.
I'll be getting more, eventually. Maybe after we have kids. But you all are right about tattooing being addicting. They must put something in the ink.
What is the intent of this thread? It starts off as basically a listing of who has tats and what they are, is this to learn who has tatoos? Since we've learned about a bunch of people who have tats, what do we do now? It sounds to me like this is something we could use the live chat for as we obviously have a lot of people who have tats and seem interested in discussing what they have
I understand what you are saying about the live chat feature but one this thread is nearly 5 months old & two I personally do not feel comfortable in chat rooms. I can't speak for others but I'm sure there are more that feel that way also.
I'm slow to repond, have to point & peck, multitask, ect, ect. I can't type 10 words a minute without making a mistake & don't want to appear to be a idiot to much. This is the closest that I would like to get to a chat room.

Parks, please try to refrain from using the "quote" option often. We like to use it when it's not easily understood who/what you're refering to. Like here, you could use my user name instead of coping my entire post with the quote function. Using the quote thing, doubles the space used which wastes bandwidth. We don't mind that you use it, but try to use it sparingly and for when it's not easily understood who you're talking to within a thread

For some interesting content, how about what kind of pain did everyone endure? When I got mine done, I waited about an hour before the tattooist was ready. He had a bunch of prep work to do before he could do an outline.
Then the outline started. I figured that was it, cause the first 15 minutes was pure pain. But, as I asked "are you done already" he said "no, not even a quarter way done yet."
So, he goes back to work on my arm, and I'm just sitting there, biting the bullet. But I eventually fell asleep. Ha ha. I guess after 15 minutes, I became numb to the pain, and it felt more like a deep tissue massage.
Hmm. Anyway, 3 hours later, he said "Okay, that'll be 300 bucks, and be sure to tell your friends." I paid him, and as I was about to leave, he gave me some care instructions.
So, for the next few days, I'm showing it off, and other people with tats are trying to tell me "no, don't use this stuff on it, use what I use." Finally, some guy with brains said "don't listen to them. Do what the guy who did your tattoo said to do. He knows what works for his ink."
I always get compliments on it, except for one time. A couple years after, I ran into a guy who said "I think your tattoo looks like garbage. How much did you pay? ... You paid too much. I could have done a better job for half what you paid." Needless to say, the guy almost got his remaining teeth knocked out.
I thought about getting a tattoo once. This kid I went to Canada w/ had one in the middle of his upper back...some kind of weird spiked sun. I liked the location of it because it's out of the way but I've never really had much motivation to get one.
Pain is a common question from people without ink and I tell them "if you REALLY want it then you'll sit through the pain, otherwise don't go".
REALLY hurt during the outlining when he was over the shoulder blades and the spine. but, he started filling in with 7 needles and after the endorphines wore off he started going over the spine again and that was pretty tough... but some other kid was getting one in the same area and he was whining like a little girl, i just clenched my fists and dealt with it.
areas that have very little fat hurt the worst, like close to the bone, and women will tell ya " heck no it doesnt hurt, after having a child nothing hurts ! "
if someone can tell me how to, id like to post a picture just to liven up this thread a bit
