I have two. I got my first one when I was 29, on my lower back (starting from waist level). This one is a thorny intertwined vine that shapes into a heart, with two small roses on each side. Almost tribal looking, done all in black. The other I had done when I was 31, and is on my upper thigh. It's a tiny rose bud, done in mauve and green. I designed these two myself along with the next one I'll be getting soon (3 inch solid red tribal dragon). The tattoo artist I go to needs written consent to use a unique design. I also made sure he didn't keep anything just in case.
Has anyone here gone to a tattoo show? I am amazed at some of the ink I saw.
I want one, but what i want is to dang expensive. I want the maltese cross (firefighter emblem) with the confederate flag as the cross, and then flames coming from behind it all the way around it and up to my shoulder. I want the bottom of it to be about mid bicep and all in true color. To expensive so i doubt ill ever get it.

I have been to many shows, worked a few... and there are some amazing tattoos out there.. I have known and worked with some really talented artists...
We went to New Zealand just to get tattooed by a particular artist

Tattoos can be very expensive but really think about it like this... some people will drop 100 bucks for sneakers, car parts etc etc...and then complain about the price of a tattoo... the tattoo will be on your body for the rest of your life I would rather pay for quality than bargain shop... just save, if it is something that you think you can live with. just do it.. I love my tattoos! but beware they are addictive
When I was tattooing it was very hard to resist.
I know what you mean Kundalini!
I've wanted more. But I've been restaining myself, and waiting for the right time. I think this spring is it.
As for the price. As you said, if you love it, you'll be willing to pay for it. I wonder. What is expensive? I paid around $450 for my back one, it's around 6" wide by 5" from top to bottom. My small one cost me $50, and it is a mere 1 1/2" by 3/4", but it is very intricate.
Price can vary... sometimes I would charge a flat rate for something small, but larger pieces were by the hour... $125 an hour is about average...
I only did custom work.. and when you think about it its not that expensive considering I would not charge for drawing time...
so lets say it took me 10 hours to draw the piece and only 3 to tattoo it... thats only about $13 an hour for my time....
I never really paid for my tattoos but.... if I had I would be into it for more than 200 hours if I had to guess... I got lucky with professional courtesy
yeah... you get one, and suddenly you find new places you want them. its addicting.
18 years old- full body of wolf howling on my right arm
18 1/2- left shoulder- head of a wolf howling with a blue tribal behind it
19 years old- had a blue moon put above my wolf on my right arm, AND on the left arm i got my last name put under the tribal/wolf
i got those two done at a tattoo convention... had two needles on me at once, great feeling. love the pain! me and some friends had a hotel reserved at the tattoo convention... partied like rockstars that night
20 years old- chest- right side- outline of a jaguar
20 years old- back- from shoulder to shoulder, got a black tribal goes almost all the way across and about 5-6 inches tall
regrets- my last name is Miller. im proud of that, but i have to explain to SOOO many idiots why i have the Miller logo on my arm. ( its the miller beer brewing logo ) they just assume im a drunk but i love the looks on their faces when i explan "hey moron, its my name"
and the jaguar outline on my chest i want to get covered up with a black trible sun, the one from the Godsmack CD
oh yeah- the back tribal is one that i spent HOURS trying to design myself, then i spent HOURs searching online... i saw it and knew it was the one for me. and as far as i know, theres only one other person with this
Left upper arm - angry eagle over flag with USA underneath.
Right upper arm - eagle carrying M-16 with flag flying from beneath..I designed this one...lousy artist did the work, but it's OK.
Back - eagle landing, claws out, rocks, trees, valley scene surround it. It is about 8 1/2 x 10 inches.
I want to add a Flying Tigers airplane below the eagle on my back on the right side and add a 174th Assault Helicopter Company "Shark" with Flying Tiger Teeth on the other side facing each other. We were the only company in Vietnam with written authorization from the Flying Tiger Assn, to use the famous markings. Now, if you are curious as to what the Shark looked like...go to www.americal.org/174 and check out the first page. This is the website of the company I was with in Vietnam.
Someone said tattoos are addicting. They were right. I started with my first tattoo at age 50. I eventually would like to have my whole back done with the above and then the Flag filling in the reast of the area surrounding everything and fading into each image.
Hmm I have zero I guess ozzy was right when he said " if you want to be different dont get any tatoo's cuz everyone has them"
My wife has 2 and I dont plan to get any, just another way for me or my body to be identified, I dont pass judgement on anyone I see with tats, but I have always said its just "Graffitti your body"
I have one on my right sholder (just above my bicept). I got it just before I went into the Army last April. I got it because I wanted a way to take my dead Grandfathers with me. They were real important parts of my life while growing up. It's of a pretty cool cross and it has their names on a ribbon that wraps around it.
