Are kingpin knuckles really that much better?

I am planning on doing a SAS on my '92 bronco. In choosing a D60 axle, I have a couple choices. I can get a 92-98 ball-joint axle or get an earlier kingpin axle. I can get the ball-joint axle a little cheaper than the kingpin. I have heard that the kingpin is more durable and stronger than ball-joints. Is there really that much difference to make it worth paying more for the axle? Also what other options do I have to make the knuckles as strong as possible so I can later add hydraulic assist steering and high steer.

The only replacement knuckles they make that I know of (was in a magazine I just read) are for the kingpin design. For that alone, it looks like kingpins are the choice for you.

they are harder to rebuild, but they last much longer than balljoints...the only reason they went to balljoints was they ar emuch faster/easier to put in on the assembly line

heres a good link, dedenbear has the ford knuckles out now, your pretty extreme just to break stock stuff, but these guys do some crazy stuff

this is much cheaper than going with fabbed knuckles from someone like welderboy

I have personally never seen a king pin break but I have seen ball joints break. 44" tires can play heck on your outers, no matter what they are.

King Pins rule! They are tough to align but stay aligned much much better and are very tough.
