[updated:LAST EDITED ON 15-Sep-02 AT 07:04 PM (EST)]Does anyone have any info on the stock premium sound system? I have a SD Lariat with the premium 6 CD changer and was wondering what kind of power it put out. I can't find any info in the manual or on searches of this site.
Does that unit have enough poop to run some aftermarket 2- ways or am I pissing in the wind without an amp?
Less then 25 amps. I have a '02 with the same audio set-up as you, and am right in the middle of changing my system. I love my Ford, but the factory stuff is sad. The stock paper speakers are worse then a '72 Datsun 510's speakers. The factory head is a limiting factor according to the guys on the board. Best to replace than, along with adding an amp(s), better speakers (the factory speaker wiring is 20 gauge or less, so that needs replacing also), & a good sub-woofer. I'm keeping my factory head, as I like the stock look, but I'm adding a SSI America NEO Audio Jukebox (20 gigabit harddrive, 5000+ songs in MP3 format), wiring directly to the amp (5 channel, 750 watt LightningAudio). So I can have the stock head for radio, and the occasional CD, and run the JukeBox, the majority of the time, for selection and quality. A plus to the upgrade, is these Super Duties are a piece-of-cake to pull apart inside to do the work.

Thanks Mark,
I got a guess from a Vestion dealer today that that unit puts out 80 w /4 = 20w each speaker. It has an internal amp but that seems weak at best. The stock speakers crank up pretty good but sound like crap full time. I suspect they are 15w ea.
That's a bummer cause I don't want to do the full enchilada right now. I’m not big into the sound system thing but was hoping to get better sound with just a good set of aftermarket 2 ways. At 20w per I’d bet the good speakers would sound worse that the stockers.

Steve, you are correct in that guess. Part way through the install I hook my rear speakers (Polk DX-7 3 ways), into the stock system. It was very hard to hear them, as not enough power to drive them, compaired to the stock speakers.
