For the past week or so I have had a noise coming from the front end. I sounds like a noisy bushing (high pitched), but it doesn't make the noise over bumps, only when turning the wheel back and forth. I can hear it mostly when parking or low speed driving when I turn the wheel. I lubed all of the grease fittings until they pushed grease, with no reduction in sound. Today I put the front up on jack stands and it would not make the noise. This leads me to think it maybe a ball joint or some part of the suspension that holds weight. After I took the truck of the stands I had someone turn the wheel while I was laying under the front of the truck and I could only pin point that the noise is coming from the passengers side. I could not feel any vibration in the suspension parts when the noise was occuring.
If anyone has any idea where I should go from here please give your suggestions, because the noise is making me go nuts!
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 13-Sep-02 AT 06:51 PM (EST)]While you had it up on stands did you grab top and bottom of the tire and try to move in and out, have someone do it while you look at the the pivot points. Also if you have a long bar or pipe you can place it under the tire and attempt to raise or lower the tire and watch them also any movement is a sign there going bad!
Just a quick update. My buddy and I put my truck up on his lift at his shop today (These trucks don't fit on a stock lift very well) and tried to figure out where the sound was coming from. Even then It was hard to determine where the sound was origionating from. It is hard to tell, because the springs seem to amplify the sound. Anyway the upper ball joint seemed somewhat loose, so we tightened the bolt beside the caliper that appears to clamp down on the joint. After that the noise stopped. I don't know why, but I am happy. I will let you know if it continues to stay quiet.
