I never said that NO backpressure is desirable. Like I said in my post, with true duals you will lose a little backpressure (you don't lose A LOT of back pressure with just true duals). Loss in backpressure results in a loss of torque. You don't really "lose" the torque, you just move it up higher in the RPM band, and when you're up around 4-5k rpms you gain a few horsepower. Every dyno of 3.8 Mustangs I've seen with just true duals show a consistent gain in RWHP. Granted, on a nearly stock car the gain isn't very much. I think you guys are over estimating your loss in backpressure with just a cat-back true dual exhaust.
Jimmy is correct, without any kind of exhaust system your valves will burn up...it'll sound mean as heck at idle before that happens though

V6Mustang, post this in the backpressure thread please. Let's try and keep these threads on topic.

Hey 4.2flyby I have recently installed a airaide intake(on a 2002 ford 4.2l f150), which I felt a little more hp and torque. A few days later I installed a Helix throttle body spacer, and w/the intake and the throttle body spacer I definately felt more power. This is just my opinion, but it was well worth the money, it cost about 100 dollars at O'reily's.

thanks,
Brad

See, that's what Garrett was talking about in an earlier post. The combination of the right parts will get you more power, but if you just get the spacer you will not feel anything.

are you going for fuel economy or power? I can tell you this much.

I have a set of JBA headers, volant air intake, TB Spacer, JET chip, and gibson SIDO exhaust.

Before and after the install of the headers, I got 19-21 MPG on the highway. I dont know of anyone hittign those kind of numbers, personally. I think a couple of guys here do, but I dont actually KNOW them.

If you want power, and to smoke those tires like WHOA, then save all your cash, and get a supercharger, exhaust, diablo chip, and headers.

Save up 4500 or so and you will be golden IMHO, of course.

Garrett

I'm not too sure what type of mpg I get, I'll check it for you. Then again I also have a Ford Module and Dual side catback exhaust. So it will probably be different. Anyways I'll quit wasting your time.

thanks,
Brad

Hey read my MAC Intake thread I just posted. I just installed it yesterday and it really made a difference. It's only $149.50 ordered and shipped from Motorhaven to your doorstep. That's only about $30 - 40 more than a single spacer. Great deal IMO.

I personally would just get the intake....some people swear by the tornado, some people call it bogus. You need to dyno your truck to see if it really works. The "by-the-seat-of-your-pants" meter isnt always accurate. Also, I have yet to hear anyone say that an aftermarket intake DIDNT give them any gains.

Well, whether the spacer works or not, and intake will definately create more power and breath better, cooler air into the engine.

4.2flybyu:

I called 1-770-806-1955 (Motorhaven's phone number) and ordered it like that. The number is toll free. Here are 2 links to the Intake I have installed:

www.motorhaven.com

www.macperformance.com

MAC also makes a pretty cheap set of headers for our trucks, but that's another thread.
