I thought the write up on the F150 in the truck shoot out this month was very honest. Ashame to loose to Nissan but second place to the rest of the bunch was great.
Remember, their name is CAR & Driver, and they freely admit they don't care much for trucks. C&D is the most entertaining to read, though- great sense of humor up there in Ann Arbor.
Add another trophy to Ford's display case: it was announced today at the Detroit Auto Show that the 2004 F-150 was named the North American Truck of the Year!
I was watching this Speed Channel Detroit something or other and Csaba Csere from Car and Driver, Dutch Mandel from Autoweek, a guy from Road and Track, and another guy were talking about the new cars and trucks for 2004. Csere was talking about the new Malibu (I know, not a Ford, but bare with me here) and he said the only thing wrong with the Malibu is that it is an American car. This kinda stuff ticks me off. The Jap brands are not so great. Those foreign companies must be paying them somehow. I thought the media was supposed to be impartial. Yeah right!

That is what I mean, Car&Driver and Road&Track are French owned magazines that hate everything that is American, that is why I never buy them and I always cover them with another magazine when I see them in the store.

Car&Driver Road&Track
Thats a good idea. Cover it with CarCraft or MM and FF.
Men, I saw the magazine (didn't buy it, I'm not giving them my money) and it sucks, by reading it I could tell they hate the F-150, and in the test the F-150 was like the heaviest truck with about 5900 lbs, all of the other trucks were very close to 5100lbs, even the Titan.
Now, I think C&D did something wrong intensionally because the F-150 Lariat SuperCrew 2WD is about 5300lbs.

That's something that I find interesting. The Titan is 800lbs lighter, but still has a box frame. I realize the engine is all aluminum, but what corners did they cut not to have near the same weight as the f150?

They tested loaded 4x4's. The 4x4 systems adds 200-300 lbs.
Ford's website shows the weight of the 4x4 Screw at around 5700-5800 lbs., and Ford is notorious for being low on its published curb weights. 5900 lbs. is very believable.
Face it, the new F-150 is porky and needs to lose some weight.

Ok, if they are 4x4, then the F-150 SuperCrew 4WD is 5560lbs and the Titan SE Crew Cab 4WD is 5341lbs, that is about 200lbs difference!!!, I don't see where C&D got the 5900lbs and 800lbs difference between them.
I believe intentionally C&D tried to find the most heaviest new F-150 and compare it with the lightest models from the competition so the F-150 looked bad in the 0-60, 1/4 mile, line change, towing test, ...

Maybe C&D measured the weight with three big fat guys hidden in the bed
