Ok here it goes I got a 1990 XLT 5.8 I got ant idling problem. between 4 broncos i have found what to look for and have become very self dependant on fixing them but i found a brick wall. the truck idles rough and stalls alot and now stals when over drive is engaged and no throttle is applied. i have changed the IAC the MAP and checked resistance and voltage in the TPS. those are the 3 most things that go wrong for this make and year and the easiest to change. i plugged it into the computer and she through 3 codes egr wich i have had many bad egrs and i know its not that. EGO wich was the map sensor ok 2 down now for the third and final it threw a code called PSPS (power steering pressure sensore) know i know what the sensor does it tells the ecm how to controll the iac (idling of the vehical) when it is under load cause of steering.my problem is i dont know were it is how to change it or even were to get it im guessing it is a ford part only. if anyone has had this problem please send me a replay or a site that has instructions cause i cant get the damn thing to stay running and i hate driving an automatic with 2 feet.
one test with one without still throwing the same code. and here is another one damn check engine light wont come up when codes are stored but it works when you start the puppy up ohh just was playing with it when i take the vacum line off the map the truck dosnt stall but runs like crap and stinks tried 3 diff maps all the right modle one new one used maybe 1k miles and on just outa a pile of dirt from my garage . hope that info helps.
check your timming, it may need to be advanced.....your tester should tell you how to clear codes from memory...clear codes...the psps wouldn't cause it to run like crap.......sound like a timming or idle speed....change those and check again
I can't see the psps causing a stall while you are moving. EGO is the O2 sensor, not MAP. If you cleared your codes and did it again, what would come back? If you do have an egr that dumps too muck or sticks when you go back to an idle, it will stall and will also cause the O2 to go lean.I would suggest taking another look at that. BTW, the psps should be attached to the high press line offf the gearbox. It just unscrews.
yes timming can get thrown pretty fast if chain is too loose or distributer clamp bolt is loose....try and turn dist..if you can then tighten bolt on stem (you can get a special wrench that is bent to get to it easier from parts store...change pcv $2.30 just incase...you might wana relocate pcv to vacume tree if it is located on cyl 8
never said ego was map but a bad map can cause a chain of events that cause the ego to register wrong wich will send a code to the ecm telling me its a bad ego when its really not ...i got a cheap computer it dosnt tell me much just the basics you kinda gotto work with it.
ill take your advise and check out the egr ...everytime it has ever thrown a code it hasnt effected the engines idle so i assumed it wasnt that ...thats what i get for assuming.
ok its raining and garage is full so dont have too much to work with atm but i decided to do another none running test on my bronco i ma getting a code 14 on the actron system wich can be ISC Idle speen control how do i determine what to do to change the ICS and is it adjustable or a replaceable thing ...not a problem i have hit yet but hey im here to learn . i would rather do it myself than pay out my @$$ by bringing it to a machanic
