Tools to R/R Starter

I have to go pull the starter off the truck in the AM, and was wondering what tools to take with me to where the truck is staying until I return. 76 F-150 390 2 BBL A/T. Thanks!

Well, the starter retaining bolts should use a 1/2" wrench or socket. I prefer a socket with about 6" extension for the top bolt. The bottom, can usually be removed with a wrench or socket.
The retainer bolt for the cable is either 5/16 or 3/8 usually. A pair a vise grips just in case someone has buggered up the head on it.
A rag, it's probably greasy by now.

Do you have headers? If you do you're probablly gonna have to drop them to pop out the starter, I had to.You're gonna need a breaker bar to break the header bolts loose and a torque wrench to torque em' back on.But if you have a manifold it, it won't be in your way.BTW Header bolts are 3/8".

No headers, just cast iron manifolds here. Oily it is, big time. Who do you get a decent starter from? Who do you avoid like when mamma's mad?

Stay away from Checker, Advance Auto, or Western Auto. I am sooo sick and tired of returning parts for warranty work to these people.

I think it has something to do with the A1/Cardone rebuilt parts, might do well just to stay away from them.

AutoZone is steered widely around for rebuilt stuff here in the Houston area.

My only other options here are NAPA, Carquest, and Bumper to Bumper. I regularly use NAPA and Bumper to Bumper with no complaints so far.
