Hi, new to the board, I just purchased a new 2003 F150 SuperCrew. I have a radio with a one disk CD player that the CD enters thru the front of the radio. Question is, can I use either the Ford 6 or 10 CD changer? and if so, where would the changer be located in the cab? I have the 60/40 front seat with a pull down center console.
Thanks in Advance.
Jon
With a 60/40 seat you're probably going to have to mount the changer behind or under the back seat. The easiest changer to hook up would be an FM modulated one. The guys in the Audio forum which is a ways further down on the main forum page will probably have anymore answers you might need.
Hey EMT
I just bought a 2002 F-150 Screw a couple months ago and all it had was an AM/FM cassette. I checked the changer option but it's a little hard to locate without being in the way. I ended up buying a Ford OEM 6cd in dash unit out of an 03 F-150 on e-Bay and it works great. No drilling, wiring, mounting or cutting. Just removed the old one and plugged in the new one in and slipped it right in the hole. Looks just like it came that way. Just one painless option.
My 6 CD changer is located in the center console but I have the captains chairs. With the 60/40 seating, you may have to find a place in the rear for it.
Ok, this is a very old post, but from all my searching the archives, it comes closest to the question(s) I have but doesn't completely answer them. If any of y'all are out there I'd love to get udates...
NASCAR24FAN- I have 02 Screw also except with single cd. I'd like to change to in-dash CD6 like you did but wasn't sure of compatibility / correct wiring plug in / etc. Do you remember how many wiring harnesses there were in your swap?
Changer option- my manual says push CD button to switch between CD and CD changer (if equipped). Also says CD changer (if equipped) is in "stowage bin on the passenger's side (supercrew with bench seats)" Does anybody know what stowage bin they're referring to? Although my preference would be 6 in dash, I'd consider putting in a changer if all the wiring is already in place (although I doubt it is).
General question- to remove the radio, do I need to purchase or otherwise obtain the removal tool or can one be easily fashioned out of something else, like a clothes hanger or other rod? Not quite sure how it releases the radio.
Thanks for any help guys,
Mike

There's NO wiring to do.Take out the old and slide in the new. The 2 plugs and antena that were plugged into the old unit plugged right into the new one with no heartburn!! I did have to cut out a piece of plastic with my swiss army knife saw blade. The new unit is a little bigger than the old one on the inside.
You can buy the tools ( I got mine on e-bay for 5 bucks) or you can try a coat hanger, That's if you old & new units have small holes on both sides. If not I can't help. If you have any more qestions LMK

P.S. Less than $200 and sounds great
I tried buying one off ebay to save the trouble, and the plugs didn't match up.. It was out of a 2003 Screw, and mines a 2002 ext. cab FX4... anyone know of any harnesses i could buy to make it work?? Its a pioneer 6-disc in dash cd player...
guess i should have explained a little better.... its a ford factory pioneer stereo... i can find a harness to match the wiring in my truck, but finding one for the factory pioneer stereo that ford had is tough.... any suggestions??

I don't have a direct answer for you about why the factory pioneer radio doesn't match up, but I found a website that discusses Ford radio identification http://oem-auto-accessory.com/photo_page.html
Whatever I change to, I want to be able to add XM later using a wiring harness to hook up to the CD changer plug, rather than using an FM modulator. I've seen the PIE harness and the Blitzsafe harness but the PIE (http://www.pie.net/appl_aux.pdf) says not compatible with 2003 Ford in-dash 6 disc.
The Blitzsafe http://www.blitzsafe.com/blitz_appgu...tion_Guide.pdf
doesn't seem to make any mention of not working with the 6-disc changers, so I'm not sure what the deal is or if any of this applies to your situation.
