Temp. Gauge Sending Unit

My truck (in sig) runs on the very low side of normal on the temperature gauge. The truck itself actually runs warm enough for the heater to blow hot air. So I am thinking maybe the temperature sending unit is shot. Where is it? And is there a way to test it? Thanks.

I think Ford has the guages set up to run on the lower side of normal. Mine usually rides just below the 'n' of normal.

The coolant temp sender should be near the front of the intake manifold on the drivers side with one wire going to it. I'm not sure how to test the sender, but you can ground the wire to test the guage.

Well, I tested the gauge by grounding it and it works. So I bought I sending unit directly from Ford and installed it. But alas, it still runs just below the NORMAL line. Hmm....weird. I get some pretty good heat but it still reads low. Any other suggestions or does this engine just run low? I have a thermostat I am going to replace so maybe that will make it run a bit hotter.

Replacing the thermostat sounds like a good idea. It's not the guage and it's not the sender, so the engine may indeed be running a little colder than it should be. My mechanic always says to get a thermostat from the dealer.

I bought one at the same time as buying the sending unit. I bought it from the dealer as well. I work for my dad's tree business so anytime I go into the dealer they give me my dad's prices. Businesses get stuff cheaper! One time I bought a part and regular price was double what I pay.

So it only cost me $20 CANADIAN for a thermostat, gasket and sending unit. I might do it this afternoon. I'll keep you guys updated.......

I would think you have a corroded connection somewhere. (High resistance) I had the same problem on my truck. Changed the temp sensor and had the same problem. Cleaned the connection and snugged it with a pair of pliers....runs mid scale now. I guess it could be the wire....
