I have a 98 Explorer, 4WD, with 4L SOHC. I have managed to locate my PCV valve (finally) so I pulled it out to check it. I can hear a rattle when I shake it, so I was just going to reinstall it.
However, I can't seem to get it back in!? It certainly isn't very easy to get to, and having short arms doesn't help. I don't want to force it and end up damaging something.
Can anyone tell me how to reinstall the PCV valve? Is it "keyed" to go in only one way? Should I hear it "click" when it's properly seated?
Any and all help is greatly appreciated since it will be difficult to get to work tomorrow if I don't get this thing back in.
Next question, how will I know if it's NOT seated properly? Will it spit & sputter, or stall or worse? I ran it for a few minutes and it sounded Ok. Is that a good enough check?
ebauer Thanks for the reply. If it's not seated all the way, I will try the lube.
I can't seem to find the PVC in my 98 4.0 SOHC. I want to replace it but the Chilton's manual was no help in locating it. Any chance you could direct me or even better show me a picture. Any help would be great. Thanks so much!!
It seems to be a hard thing to find I guess. Hopefully someone here will be able to help us out. I haven't found a manual that works well for this at all. And didn't find much when I did a search on this forum.
Yeah I tried looking under my hood too and nothing. It seems like it may be burried some place. It is probably almost as hard to get to as that back spark plug.
I got them all but the back one too. Went to ford to see what the deal was with that plug and they said no one can get it and they hate doing them. Charged me $50 to do it. I asked if there was a tool they used and they said there was, just didn't feel like trying to pick one up. Now I need this damn PVC valve
Well they changed it for me no prob, but they bitched about it saying they hate chaning that one. I said yeah me too, hopefully you won't have to worry about it and it will last for ya. I have heard you can get to it by taking the tire off and going in from the bottom. Well I wasn't able to get into my garage so that was out of the question.
Hello everybody, the PVC valve in a 98 6V Soch engine is located between the Engine and the fire wall in the right side. Remove the plastic engine cover and look to the back upper side (easier if you are located in the passanger side of the car) You will find a hoses and attached to the upper side of the engine is the PVC valve. Take out the plastic clip and disconnect the valve for the 2 hoses( try wiht a lamp.......everything is black....and confuse)
Respect to the Spargplug in the same side, is not impossible to remove, is easier if you try removing the right whell protec and a locate the sparplug. I did with a normal tools...Good look.
