Bed carriage bolts

We used bumper bolts to hold the bed on my son's 66 short wide. Wanted to use stainless but had trouble finding 7/16" stainless carriage bolts and settled on bumper bolts with a stainless cap. They were available in a variety of lengths from the local parts house.

I know that hardware stores will generally carry 3/8 and 1/2 carriage bolts. The 7/16 carriage bolt is an oddball. I even went to a supply house that deals only with bolts and such. They could order the 7/16 carriage bolts. I just stopped by a few auto parts stores and found some bumber bolts in the Help rack.

Special bolts
It looked to me as if the front two bolts were made different, like a spacer or shoulder was on them.

Check out www.lmctruck.com ; got mine there. They have a kit with nuts and washers and the long shoulder that you are looking for.
