I have a 4.0L Explorer that quite recently lost a lot of power. Its quite slow off the mark until it reaches about 3000 rpm then it operates normal. There are a couple of other things that I have noticed about the same time, these include a little bit longer than normal for the brakes to pressurise (or not be so hard under pedal) ( it takes about a 30 secs rather than the normal near immediate) are these all interlinked? The Air filter was a bit dirty could that have been the problem? I checked the airfilter yesterday and ordered one in. Any ideas or help would be appreciated. But it does lack a lot of power at the moment. There are no check engine lights on, and fuel consumption is fairly normal.
Yes air filter could be it. That could also be wasting some gas...even if it is very slightly dirty, i found that it wastes a lot of gas. Is there a pep boys near you? If so, get purolater air filter from there...really low restriction and very cheap (about $11.99)... Motorcraft sucks... too restrictive.
sounds to me like a vacuum leak. that would explain both of the problems, because the brake booster runs off of a vacuum line. Unfortunately, vacuum leaks can be loads of fun to find. Check for any cracked lines, also loose or broken connections. I would check first around where the brake booster gets its feed though. hope this helps.
Okay I replaced the air filter, next problem how do i check the various vaccum hoses for fault? I just went for the primitive version of looking for holes and spilts. Any one have any idea on how many to check? LOL is all sounded easy.
