A record, at least for me

So when the end of the year paycheck came around, I was not expecting the quantity of dough. I had forgotten that this place doesn't roll over sick-time and vacation like my last job, so I was pleasently surprised to see an extra week's worth of pay in there.

So I says, hmm, what to do? I know! Buy another gun! So I cruise on down to the gun store, and knowing I have a .45 Colt lever-gun on layaway, I pay it off. I've always wanted a lever action rifle, I think it's the cowboy in me trying to get out. But then I do some math and it occurs to me that there's still more money to be used for gun shop impulse buying. Spying a CZ-52, I declare that I'll take one of those too.

So for the first time in my life, I've come home from the gun store with 2 guns. I know, I know, that's nuthin for some of you, but on my income, that's just downright cool.

I'd take them out and see how they do tomorrow, but the Seahawks are playing, so I may have to wait till next weekend.

Re: A record, at least for me

Been there, done that!

I walked into a hardware store to get a 1/2" pipe plug. They sell guns so I thought I'd just take a look. Ended up buying an SKS rifle..., and a 1/2" pipe plug.

Another time. Went to my regular gun shop. Bought on impulse a Ruger GP100. I didn't have the gun in hand because of the 10 day wait in California. So I left the gun shop and headed to WalMart for some motor oil and a oil filter. The sporting goods dept. is located in the next isle with the gun display behind the counter. Saw they had a Marlin .22 magnum. I didn't own a .22 mag. rifle so I bought one. I just bought two guns in one day and had nothing to show for it except an empty wallet, six quarts of motor oil and a oil filter

Good, buy them while you still can. More guns equals less bad guys.

Somewhat true, but I doubt it'll do much good here. I once read that the average Montana household has 20+ guns, so if crooks haven't gotten the message yet, they're just dumb.
It was before I was interested in my 2nd Amendment Rights and too young to purchase firearms any way that all the Makarovs and SKS's got dumped on the American market and were going for $60, so I missed that one. Now I have to settle for less cool bolt-action Mosin-Nagants for $49 and that's about it. Used to be you could get a CZ-52 for about $80, and you can still get them for a little under $100 on the net, but they're closer to $150 in most stores now. I got mine with 2 mags, a cleaning rod, and leather holster for $139.

I briefly thought about stockpiling Mosin-Nagant M44 Bolt-Action Carbines on account of their 49 dollar price, but am debating it, considering how useless a 5-round bolt-action would be against any respectable force.
I should just save for more AK's and SKS's.

I think a good pistol, a shotgun, and a long rifle are enough to cover any circumstance.

If you need more than that, you let the bad guys get WAY too close. Time to grab the cell phone and call for reinforcements at that point....

PSONEDIT:

I wonder if there are still full auto machine pistols around? Imagine a 1911A1 with selective fire....

PPSOE:

I noticed in the shotgun times that somebody out there manufactures a revolver chambered in 2 1/2 inch 12 guage. Talk about recoil...

I was thinking about stockpiling more from the point of being able to arm a small militia if neccessary. Sorry, I have a bit of the survivalist in me.
Indeed, if I was defending a location by myself, I would have only an AK and 1911 close at hand, with the others in the safe waiting if neccessary. My eyes are not good enough to pick off targets at distances the AK cannot effectively reach out and touch.

A select-fire 1911 would be just plain cool, despite probably being a real PITA to control. Maybe the solution would be another grip on the long 30rnd mazine neccessary to feed it. From that lower location leverage may allow decent control.

Is that shotgun-revolver 2 3/4" or 3 1/2"? You wrote 2 1/2", and I wasn't aware of a 2.5". Either way, it'd just be plain cool. I'd buy one simply for that reason. I've occasionally thought about seeing if I could manufacture something like that. Seeing as shotshells are relatively low pressure, you wouldn't need to go too fancy with the steel.

could anyone suggest a good hand for a beginner.i plan on doing a little bowhunting this year.i feel a little leary of being in the woods unarmed.not real good with the bow yet so i cant depend on that if i happen to come across a wounded animal, which has happened before.nothing fancy,200-300 bucks .something that takes inexpensive ammo as i'll have to practice a lot

fordfaggiole,
It might be good to check with your states DNR on what type hand gun is legal to carry while bowhunting (during bow only season). There are restrictions on caliber in some states.

Fordfaggiole- if i remember right the state of Minnesota ( where i live ) does not allow for you to carry a firearm while you are bowhunting. maybe i read it wrong but thats what stands out in my mind. but every state is different though
