Question Which tranny do I have???

The sticker on the door jamb b/t the driver's side front and back doors displays an "E" code under the "TR". I'm assuming that means I have the E4OD transmission? or do I have the 4R100 transmission in my 2002 F-250 SD CC 5.4L 4X2 gasser?

I'm changing the tranny filter, fluid, and installing the Diablo shifter valve on Monday, so I want to make certain I get the correct tranny filter and fluid for it.

BTW, what's the best fluid? I have 60K miles on my truck and I'm sure it's never had synthetic tranny fluid in it previously.

Thanks again everyone for your input!

For trucks, Ford quit making the e4od in 1996 1/2 for F150's and 1997 for 250/350's. You have the "improved" version; 4R100 (4=4 speed, R=Rear drive, 100 = 1000 ft/lbs max input torque.) The code is still "E". The others are "U" for 4R70W ( 4 speed, Rear drive, 700 ft/lbs max input torque, Wide ratio.) "5" for ZF S6-650 6 speed manual low torque (gas models) and "6" for ZF S6-650 6 speed manual high torque (diesels). You bought a 2WD? Who buys 2WD's anymore?
I think the 4R100 has two different filters, one for the shallow pan 2WD version and one for the deep pan version that comes on 4WD.

n578md,

Thanks for clearing that up for me and for explaining what it stands for. And yes, I have a 2WD. I know, I know.... that's the SECOND questioin everybody asks, "is it 4WD"? The first is "what motor, the diesel or the V-10"? Doh!

I really don't need/use 4WD or big hp/torque... so when I found this (used) truck, it simply "fit the bill". We needed 4 doors and a big, safe truck... so I traded in my '01 Camaro Z-28 and got this!

Next time, it's the diesel or the V-10 though... but probably still not the 4WD. I'm just not an off-roadin' kinda guy; I stay on pavement/roads 99% of the time! Sorry....

Thanks again for the info.

I'm like you Daryl...
99.9% of the time on the pavement with my 4x4 Ex....
Here in Texus, we don't have the snow and ice (most of the time!)

And had an '02 4x2 X, but opted for the 4x4 in '03 because of the 'look' of the new one....
just looked right to me....

DS;

I know what you just what you mean. I was being sarcastic. I Don't have or need 4wd either. I have had 3 2WD's but also one 4wd for 3 years and really "used" it about 3 times. I do go off-road a lot but I never needed the 4wd. All I need is a LS rear or a locker, good tires and ground clearance. So I bought a 2wd and a 4" lift. No Diesel or V10 for me either. It seems (on this board anyway) that we 2WD SD owners are a small minority.

I'm in the 2wd class also. Towing is important to me, but no need at all for 4wd.
